The argument
Pixieset's whole architecture assumes you deliver a finished gallery to an inbox days after the shoot. That model fits the 2013 wedding photographer who edited Sunday and emailed Wednesday. It does not fit the photographer working a tour, a championship, a flagship launch event, where the value of a frame falls off a cliff at 6am the next morning.
Encore was built around that 6am cliff. Upload from the pit on the venue Wi-Fi. The gallery is live before the encore is over. The artist's PR team posts before house lights come up. We don't lecture you about workflow. We just don't get in your way.
Pixieset logs downloads - who, which resolution, when, with CSV export. Credit where due. What their log can't do is prove itself: it's a dashboard you trust. Encore's log is a SHA-256 hash chain, and its head is countersigned by an independent RFC 3161 timestamp authority - so the record does not rest on our word about when anything happened. Export the bundle, hand it to the magazine's lawyer, and they can re-hash every row in their own browser at /verify without an Encore account. That is the difference between analytics and evidence.
Every email Pixieset sends your clients - gallery invites, campaigns - goes out from a Pixieset-owned address; their own security docs say so. Encore sends from your studio's domain once you verify it. Small detail, until a client's spam filter or a label's IT team decides which of you looks legitimate.
Where they fall short

Pit Pass mode pushes new frames to the public gallery the moment they finalize. Pixieset has no equivalent - their own docs describe a batch flow: upload, process in the background, then share the collection.
TAMPER-EVIDENT RECEIPTS
Every view, every download, every share is hashed and chained with SHA-256. Any edit anywhere in the log breaks the chain on verify. Pixieset logs downloads too - what it can't do is prove the log wasn't edited. Ours can.
PERMANENT IDENTITY
Roll IDs persist across galleries, exports, social posts, prints. Pixieset's new Photo Library (early access) adds cross-collection search, but photos still carry no permanent public ID a client or a magazine can quote back to you.
REACTIVATION ON AUTOPILOT
Twelve months after the shoot, we email the client one keeper from the night. Drives prints, anniversary posts, re-bookings. Pixieset has no equivalent. They expect you to do this manually.
NATIVE iOS APP
Upload from the camera roll, send a gallery URL from the parking lot, flip Pit Pass on from the pit. Pixieset's current iOS app (Studio Manager, actively maintained) runs the business side - bookings, invoices, contracts - and their App Store replies say a gallery app is in the works. Today, building and sending a gallery from a phone is ours alone.
Brutal honesty
We respect your time enough to name when Pixieset (or another platform) is genuinely the better call. Read this before you switch.
Pixieset's print store is mature. Print-lab integrations, fulfillment, sales tax. We don't ship that yet. If 60%+ of your revenue is gallery print sales, stay where you are.
Encore's depth is overkill for a low-volume hobbyist. The Pit Pass, Receipts, Roll IDs, anniversary email. None of it pays back if you're not shipping work weekly. Pixieset's free tier is fine for that shape of practice.
Pixieset bundles a CRM-shaped lite. We don't. We'd rather be world-class at the gallery + delivery + post-attribution layer and let you bring your own booking (HoneyBook, Studio Ninja, Sprout) than ship six mediocre tools in a box.
If the photographer Facebook groups, the templates, the third-party LR plugins. That whole ecosystem is what you actually pay Pixieset for, switching costs are real. Worth naming.

Export a gallery from Pixieset as a zip. Drop it on the Import page. We unzip, run every frame through the variant pipeline, and assign Roll IDs starting from your studio's next number. Multi-GB shoots run server-side so you can close the tab - Roll IDs appear as photos finalize.
