Encore
The Picflow alternative

Picflow looks great. Encore is built to ship

Picflow nailed the look. The portfolio shells are gorgeous. But underneath, it's still a delivery cabinet. Same fundamental shape as everyone else, with better fonts.

The argument

01

Picflow's bet was that photographers want their galleries to feel like a high-end portfolio. They're right. We respect the work. But the photographer's actual job, the part nobody talks about in the marketing, is moving the photo from camera to client to social as fast as possible. That part Picflow did not solve.

02

Encore is opinionated about that workflow. Pit Pass live mode pushes frames during the show. Receipts log every view. Roll IDs persist forever. The Encore Reel renders the 60-second 9:16 cut your client is going to ask for anyway, in one tap. None of this exists on Picflow.

03

Looks-wise, we're not behind. Picflow gives you three layout types - grid, horizontal, vertical - plus presets you save yourself. Encore ships ten distinct themes built per shoot: Soft Light for weddings, Marquee for music, Contact Sheet for sports, Field Notes for editorial, Heirloom for portraits. Custom domain, custom fonts, custom colors. Your clients never see the word Encore unless you want them to.

04

Picflow has repositioned upmarket as a DAM and creative-workflow tool - their top tier is sold as a 'Full DAM solution' at $149+/mo, with mid tiers at $12-24/mo. Fine product, different job. Encore is a delivery engine for working photographers: the night's gallery, shipped tonight, with receipts.

Where they fall short

Four reasons photographers leave Picflow

MORE THEMES, MORE GENRES

Ten themes vs their handful.

Wedding photographers want Soft Light. Tour photographers want Marquee. Sports photographers want Contact Sheet. Editorial wants Field Notes. Picflow offers three layout types you style yourself. We built a finished theme for every kind of shoot.

REAL WORKFLOW FEATURES

Pit Pass + Reel + Receipts.

The features that actually change the working photographer's day: live mode, one-tap 9:16 reels, evidence-grade analytics. Picflow has the gallery shell. We have the engine.

CROSS-GALLERY IDENTITY

Roll IDs across your archive.

Every frame keeps one permanent ID for life, across every gallery it ever appears in. In Picflow, copying a photo to another gallery duplicates it - two copies, two identities, per their own help docs. Encore's Roll ID rides the frame everywhere it goes.

ATTRIBUTION TO SOCIAL

Track which frames moved.

The bookmarklet drops a public post URL into the platform; we pHash-match it to your Roll ID and log it. Direct evidence of which photos performed. Not a Picflow feature.

NATIVE iOS APP

Your studio in your pocket.

Upload from the camera roll, send a gallery URL from the parking lot, flip Pit Pass on from the pit. Picflow shipped iOS and Android apps in late 2025 - their own updates page describes them as the web version wrapped in an app container. Encore's app is native, and it runs the day's actual work.

Brutal honesty

Who Encore is not for

We respect your time enough to name when Picflow (or another platform) is genuinely the better call. Read this before you switch.

  • 01

    Your portfolio is the product.

If you're an art director, agency, or portfolio-first studio whose galleries exist to look perfect on a portfolio site, and you don't need live mode, post attribution, or audit logs, Picflow's pure-aesthetic shell is the right fit. Don't pay us for engine you won't run.

  • 02

You shoot stock or product, not events.

Encore is event-shaped: same-night turnaround, Roll IDs, receipts on every download. If your day is product-on-white in a studio, none of that earns its keep. Picflow's neutral gallery model fits better.

  • 03

You want client review-and-approve baked in.

Picflow's review-and-approve flow for video projects is mature. We have re-edit requests with reference frames, but we're not pretending to be Frame.io. If your work is a video deliverable that needs frame-by-frame client comments, that's not us.

Migration

Coming from Picflow? Export a gallery, drop the zip on /import. We'll Roll-ID every frame.

Export a gallery from Picflow as a zip. Drop it on the Import page. We unzip, run every frame through the variant pipeline, and assign Roll IDs starting from your studio's next number. Multi-GB shoots run server-side so you can close the tab - Roll IDs appear as photos finalize.
