Encore
The ShootProof alternative

ShootProof runs your business. Encore ships the night

ShootProof is a studio-management suite with galleries attached: contracts, invoicing, booking, print store. If you want one tool for the whole business, that is a real answer. Encore is not that tool.

The argument

01

Start with what ShootProof is actually good at, because it is easy to lose in a comparison table. Their published plans include e-sign contracts, invoicing, booking tools and a lab print store, all in the same subscription as the galleries. For a photographer who is currently paying for three products and reconciling them by hand, consolidating is worth real money and Encore does not offer it.

02

The thing to look at closely is the meter. ShootProof prices by PHOTO COUNT as well as storage - their published tiers run 100 photos on the free plan, then 1,500, 5,000 and 25,000, before an unlimited tier at $50/mo annually. Encore meters storage only. Which is cheaper depends entirely on how you shoot: a wedding photographer delivering 800 frames a job hits a photo ceiling long before a storage one, and a videographer or a landscape shooter hits it the other way round. Count your frames per year before you compare headline prices.

03

Where Encore is different is what happens during and after delivery rather than around it. Pit Pass pushes frames to a live gallery while you are still shooting. Every view, favourite and download lands in a per-studio hash chain you can export. Roll IDs stay with a frame for life, across every gallery it appears in. Those are delivery-engine features, and they are the reason to pick a narrower tool over a broader one.

04

Neither of these is the better product in the abstract. One is a business in a box; the other is opinionated about a single night's work.

Where they fall short

Four reasons photographers leave ShootProof

TWO METERS VS ONE

Photos and storage, not just storage.

ShootProof's published tiers cap photo COUNT as well as gigabytes - 1,500, 5,000, 25,000, then unlimited. Encore meters storage alone. High-volume event shooters hit a frame ceiling first; that is the number to check before comparing monthly prices.

EVIDENCE, NOT ANALYTICS

A trail you can export.

Every view, favourite and download is written to a per-studio append-only chain where each entry carries the hash of the one before it, so an altered row is detectable. The head is periodically countersigned by an RFC 3161 timestamp authority. It exports, so it is usable somewhere Encore is not.

LIVE DURING THE SHOOT

Pit Pass.

A gallery that fills while the night is still happening, so the client and their people are looking at frames before you have left the venue. Not a ShootProof feature.

ONE ID, FOREVER

Roll IDs across the archive.

Every frame gets a permanent, quotable ID that rides it across galleries, exports and reprints. A client or a picture editor can name a photo six months later and you both know exactly which one.

Brutal honesty

Who Encore is not for

We respect your time enough to name when ShootProof (or another platform) is genuinely the better call. Read this before you switch.

  • 01

You want one tool for the whole business.

Contracts, invoicing and booking are in ShootProof's published plans and are not in Encore at any price. If consolidating three subscriptions into one is the goal, that is a good reason to stay.

  • 02

Gallery print sales are your revenue.

ShootProof's lab store is shipping and ours is not. If a meaningful share of your income is prints sold through the gallery, this is not a close call.

  • 03

You shoot few frames and store a lot.

If your archive is large but your frame count per job is small, a photo-count meter may simply be cheaper for you than a storage one. Do the arithmetic rather than taking either side's word for it.

Migration

Coming from ShootProof? Export a gallery, drop the zip on /import. We'll Roll-ID every frame.

Export a gallery from ShootProof as a zip. Drop it on the Import page. We unzip, run every frame through the variant pipeline, and assign Roll IDs starting from your studio's next number. Multi-GB shoots run server-side so you can close the tab - Roll IDs appear as photos finalize.
